A beach person would better understand the pain of sunburn. Despite loathing layers of sunscreen on the body, it eventually gets burnt by the skin leaving an uneven-toned and dark skin. What is extremely pissing is that you step out in the sun for an hour and bring back a sunburnt skin! Reapplication of sunscreen lotion every now and then is tedious and so often forgets to put it on and it gets exposed to harsh sunlight. If you have suffered from sunburns before and don’t want that to repeat, we have some unconventional natural remedies for sunburn for you. These are things that you did not know could heal your sunburn.

Castor Oil

Ever thought of dealing with your sunburns with castor oil? Probably, not. Castor oil has exceptional anti-inflammatory properties which are good to soothe and calm your inflamed skin. Applying a generous amount of castor oil on the skin with gentle hands would not only calm down the burnt and irritated skin but also provides the required moisture the skin needs to overcome the sun damage.

If you apply castor oil immediately on the sunburnt skin, it will relieve the soreness, pain and also prevent the eruption of burn-induced blisters, that worsen the skin’s condition.

Lavender Oil

The lavender essential oil has myriad health benefits in its account but relief for sunburn is not a popular one. It has the ability to calm down the skin and reduce redness caused after sun overexposure. It is antimicrobial and thus, fastens the skin healing. Apply lavender oil on the sunburnt skin to soothe the skin but don’t massage and massaging would agitate the skin to form blisters.

Mash some ripe strawberries and apply this to the sunburnt area. You’ll be surprised to see the skin getting calmer after the application. Keep this for 15-20 minutes and then wash. You can also try rose aloevera cooling toner for skin.

Cucumber

You must have put cucumber slices on your eyes to calm them. Now try cucumber to calm the sunburnt skin. Cucumbers have amazing cooling effects on the skin which reduces the inflammation and prevents the skin from more damage.

Mash cool cucumber or form a thick paste using a blender. Slather this paste on the affected areas to provide the required cooling effect. Keep it for 15-20 minutes and then wash it off but don’t rub.

Green Tea

Green tea bags can be easily found in every household these days. You may know the effectiveness of green tea for weight loss but you may not know that a used green tea bag has cosmetic uses. Green tea contains tannic acid that can relieve sunburn.

Just make yourself a cup of green tea using a teabag. Place the teabag in a deep freezer for 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, sip on the green tea. Once, the tea bag is completely cooled, place it on the affected area. Ensure to not rub it against the skin. You can reuse this tea bag.
